Chaat and Chew 3: Indian Railways Eats


Reading between meals
We weren't sure what the food would be like on the trains. After riding both the Rajdhani (12 hours, Delhi to Varanasi) and Shatabdi (4.5 hours, Jhansi to Delhi) Express trains, we didn't even have to get up to get our meals. Nearly every hour, a different meal came to our seats... Check out the menu on the bottom!

Lunch in 3AC (L to R, clockwise from top): Rice, yogurt, dal, chicken masala, chapati, raw veggies

Here's the menu on the Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains for the classes of air conditioned cars (3AC/2AC/1AC/CC):

Morning Tea

  • Chlormint/Candyman/Chocolate  -  2 Pieces
  • Biscuits (Glucose/Marie Gold) – 2 Pieces
  • Tea/Coffee – Sugar (2 Pieces; 7 Grams), Coffee/Tea Bag (2 Pieces; 2 Grams), Creamer [Milk Powder Sachet] (2 Pieces; 2.5 Grams)
  • Napkin – 1 Piece

Breakfast

  • Bread Slices – 2 Pieces; 50 Grams (Pre-Packed in butter paper pack)
  • Jam/Marmalade (Blister Pack) – 1 Piece, 12-15 Grams
  • Butter Chiplet (normally Amul) – 1 Piece, 10 Grams
  • Tomato Sauce Sachet – 1 Piece, 12-15 Grams
